Carnival Horizon Dining: Restaurants & Food on Cruise Critic

The buffet restaurant has a great selection of food options available for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and desserts. Located on Deck 16 between the midships Beach Pool and the aft Tides Pool, the Lido Marketplace is the ship’s traditional buffet dining venue. Full length windows infuse the space with sunlight and a nice touch is the elevated booth seating, so the views are great from just about every seat. I personally loved the fresh ingredients in the salad bar, which is better than most with extra selections like Greek salad, kale salad and other daily specials. In addition to the expected meat, pasta and potato dishes, there are some nice international choices like curry, couscous and Asian specialties in the mix.

Non-Alcoholic Drinks

Start with appetizers like trash can nachos, sriracha spicy chicken wings (a must!) or dragon chili cheese fries. Entree items include cedar plank smoked salmon, full or half racks of baby back ribs and 18-hour beef brisket. Finish with banana cream pie, apple pie or a decadent pecan pie. Pair your barbecue with any of the craft beers, brewed right onboard. This was a favorite spot for dinner on our cruise, with some passengers visiting multiple times.

Dining Costs and Gratuities

Awaken and delight yours on a Carnival cruise with delicious main dishes, tempting desserts and general yumminess everywhere you look. It serves a rotating menu of bowls that span the gamut of Asian cuisines, from Korean bulgogi to Japanese ramen to Vietnamese pho. At this New England-style seafood shack, you can order everything from buckets of fried seafood to steamed shellfish by the pound.

Foods You Can Eat On A Carnival Cruise

The main dining room offers an exquisite dining experience featuring a three-course menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. On the flip side, Lido restaurant serves buffet-style meals for all three main meals of the day. Importantly, both are part of your cruise fare, meaning unlimited food without extra charges. As you embark on your culinary voyage, it’s important to understand what food and drink options are included in your cruise fare and what might require an additional charge.

There are so many fun active things to do on a cruise, many of which are included in the price of your cruise. All Carnival ships have a soft serve ice cream station they call Swirls. Each Carnival ship has a main dining room offering fine dining with a different menu nightly. Food at these dining rooms are included in the price of your cruise.

You can start your day with a hearty breakfast featuring classics like eggs, bacon, and fresh fruits. For lunch, you can enjoy a variety of options, such as sandwiches, salads, and international specialties. The main dining rooms offer a rotating menu with a wide variety of choices, including appetizers, entrées, and desserts. The culinary creations are made with fresh ingredients and expertly crafted to indulge your taste buds.

Carnival Horizon restaurants range from casual outdoor venues for a quick bite to more formal (but never stuffy) dining rooms with more gourmet food options. At lunch, passengers have lots of choices, with standards like the main dining room and buffet, but also a great Mongolian wok, fresh-made pasta, burger joint and burrito venue. At night, quality is noticeably better in the specialty restaurants than the included options, but dining service is great no matter where you choose to eat. Prices at most of the specialty restaurants are fair considering the quality of the dishes, and there's no such thing as a small meal onboard. Two mainstays on a Carnival Cruise are the formal main dining room and the Lido restaurant for a more casual setting.

Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration are now the only Carnival ship on the list of the 50 biggest cruise ships. Seven of the line's 25 vessels measure less than 100,000 tons, which makes them almost midsize by today's cruise ship standards. A big part of going on a cruise vacation is that you get to stop and visit multiple destinations. Something that may surprises new cruisers, is that shore excursions have an additional cost and can actually be quite costly. Unfortunately, although room service is include during the day, room service on Carnival has an additional cost between the hours of 10 PM to 6 AM. You will also find pizza available at all times (yes! 24-hour pizza), soft serve ice cream and frozen yogurt.

The onboard coffee shops on Carnival Cruise serve a wide selection of specialty coffees made from freshly ground beans. You can indulge in classic favorites like cappuccinos, lattes, and espressos, expertly prepared by skilled baristas. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafting through the air as you sip on your favorite hot beverage is a delightful way to start your day or relax during a mid-day break. You can also order a variety of non-alcoholic beverages, including coffee, tea, soda, and bottled water, to quench your thirst and keep you refreshed throughout your cruise. When you’re on a Carnival Cruise, you can indulge in delicious meals and snacks right in the comfort of your own cabin with the convenient room service options.

There is also a big screen on the pool deck where sports games and movies will be shown throughout the cruise. On my last cruise with Carnival a couple of years ago, I loved their room service menu and the food was always delicious. As a regular cruiser, it’s important to know what’s free when you are onboard a cruise. The last thing you want is to miss out on something, because you thought it had an extra cost. Equally bad is to plan an activity and be surprised when you have to pay and haven’t budgeted for the extra costs on a cruise. As someone who has cruised with Carnival in the past, I know what is and isn’t included onboard a Carnival Cruise ship.

The combination of stunning destinations, exhilarating activities, and incredible food and drinks will make your Carnival Cruise an unforgettable journey. When it comes to beverages, Carnival Cruise offers convenient beverage packages for those who want unlimited access to refreshing drinks. From alcoholic cocktails and wines to non-alcoholic options like soft drinks, coffee, and tea, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. It’s important to note that while the majority of snacks and treats are included in the cruise fare, certain specialty items and events may have an additional charge.

These bars feature a variety of freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices, packed with vitamins and nutrients. It’s an excellent choice for those looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle while enjoying their cruise. The choice of alcoholic drinks on a Carnival Cruise is vast, with a variety of spirits, liquors, and mixers available at the various bars and lounges onboard. Whether you fancy a refreshing mojito by the pool, a glass of champagne to celebrate a special occasion, or a craft beer from a local brewery, you’re sure to find a drink that suits your preferences. When it comes to enjoying alcoholic beverages during your Carnival Cruise, there’s no shortage of options to quench your thirst and enhance your vacation experience. From classic cocktails to fine wines and ales, Carnival Cruise’s bars and lounges have something to delight every taste.

The Captain’s Pasta Bar is yet another included lunch option on some of the Carnival ships. Carnival Deli is the name of the sandwich shop on select cruise ships. Shaq’s Big Chicken is a casual dining option open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but is currently only on Carnival’s newest ship Mardi Gras and Carnival Radiance. In the Lido Marketplace you will find a non-alcoholic beverage station with coffee, tea and juices in the morning, and usually iced tea in the afternoon. That said, Carnival can provide meals suited for vegetarian, low-cholesterol, low-fat, low-carbohydrate, low-sugar, and gluten-free preferences. Guys, Burger Joint is Carnival’s joint lunch time offering with Guy Fieri to offer you the best burgers at sea fresh off the grill.

Carnival has been rolling out faster Wi-Fi systems across its fleet in the last couple of years, such that you can now stream video on some ships. Pricing changes over time, but the fastest "premium" service on Carnival vessels was recently priced at $21.25 per day when bought in advance ($25 per day when bought onboard). It's a fun-at-sea focus that has gone to new levels over the past two years with the debut of Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, each of which has — get this — a roller coaster on the top deck. At 800 feet in length, these aren't the biggest roller coasters ever. For the most part, Carnival ships don't have quite as many features on board as Royal Caribbean or Norwegian vessels, in part because they're not as big.

Passengers can learn to cook everything from Carnival's classic warm chocolate melting cake to its popular saffron risotto during one- to two-hour classes that cost $30 to $59 per person. On one of Carnival's newest ships, Carnival Panorama, there's no RedFrog Pub, but the Smokehouse Brewhouse has a stage that's home to live music nightly and some of the ship's karaoke sessions. When it comes to raucous, though, nothing on Carnival ships quite compares to the frequent karaoke nights on board. Sometimes held in a secondary lounge or a shipboard pub, karaoke on Carnival draws a big crowd. Passengers come prepared with rehearsed songs and sometimes even their own guitars.
